An oasis

When first assessing our site, I thought the front courtyard was a hot, dry place. The concrete is warm and the white exterior walls reflect the afternoon summer sunlight. The plants are arid, like Dracaena marginata, yucca, pandanus, and some varieties of agave. I had continued the theme by putting Mediterranean-style plants in large pots in the courtyard: citruses, olives, a fig, and bougainvillea. With regular watering, they have coped with the heat just fine.

There is spot where not much has grown at all. It is a very shaded spot, gaining morning light filtered by a marginata, and then nothing, either summer or winter. I am suspecting that this may be a microclimate within a microclimate; a suitable place for my shade-loving indoor plants when they are not on an indoor rotation. After removing an agave, the plant stand fits perfectly.

We shall see how they fare over summer! Fingers crossed!
