Persimmon: niche analysis
Photo of Fuyus from Ison's Nursery and Vineyards (www.isons.com) |
Native habitat: North America, Florida area; deciduous
Size: 6m
Water needs: regular, but minimal during fruiting (ideally, limited rainfall during Feb to May) http://era.daf.qld.gov.au/id/eprint/2210/3/Chapter_02.pdf
Light: full sun
Soil, feeding: well-draining, sandy loam / loam
Wind: protect from wind; branches break when fruiting
Products: edible fruit but require netting to protect from animals and insects; very susceptible
Integration plan: Exclude from plan due to requirement of wind protection; it can be very gusty at Clontarf and I can't guarantee protection using other plants due to size and built infrastructure limitations of the yard.
