South fence: project
The tiger grass along the South fence has been struggling against rat attacks and we decided to get rid of it. While we enjoyed the screening from the neighbours and tranquil sounds of the foliage in the breeze, ultimately, the maintenance of thinning out the old growth, the harbouring of vermin, and providing a route for vermin to access the roof, has led to this decision.
The plan currently is to slowly eradicate the 20 metres of the grass, starting with the front section along the entry porch. Screening from neighbours will come from the evergreen flowering Plumeria pudica and a bamboo screen roof which will form a protected shaded area for indoor plants.
- Remove tiger grass behind front porch
- Screen front porch
- Plant Plumeria pudica along front porch
- Remove remaining tiger grass
- Screen back deck length
- Plant fruit trees
- Prep ground for garden shed
- Put down slab
- Erect garden shed
- Pave/surface area around garden shed
The section along the rear deck will become an additional living space with a rough paved floor, screened with bamboo fence screening, and the remaining fenceline will have small fruit trees (feijoa, strawberry guava, custard apple, moringa).
