South fence: project update #3

Small fruit trees in the ground and volunteer pumpkin starting to creep
  1. Remove tiger grass behind front porch
  2. Screen front porch
  3. Plant Plumeria pudica along front porch
  4. Remove remaining tiger grass
  5. Screen back deck length
  6. Plant fruit trees
  7. Prep ground for garden shed
  8. Put down slab
  9. Erect garden shed
  10. Pave/surface area around garden shed
In the ground now: yellow pawpaw, red pawpaw, dwarf red banana, feijoa, cherry guava. One tub with cover crop in preparation for ginger and turmeric, another tub for tiger grass.

There have been a few large root balls of tiger grass needing a manual dig-out, and plenty of shallow, small root off-cuts that have sprouted as well. It has been an ongoing monitoring and dig situation.

Pumpkin seeds in the added compost have sprouted and will be retained as much as possible as a living mulch. Other mulch used include onsite mulched tiger grass and commercial sugar cane mulch.
First stage of garden shed slab site prep
Another part of the South fence project is establishing a garden shed to house the tools, bikes, and vehicle accessories. Dad will be helping out with the slab and we had a small site prep party, clearing the site of tiger grass waste, and cleaning some of the onsite gravel. I spent a morning determining level and then a bit of cut and fill. The next step is compacting the earth.
