First compost

My first garden compost heap was ready a few weeks ago, but it was only today I had the time to start sifting it. I've sifted it through a 10mm x 10mm mesh and it is lovely and moist. Each shovelful had about thirty worms in it. There were other critters in it too, like small cockroaches and what looked like a little centipede. The sticks that were not yet decomposed and the worms were transferred to the active compost bin. I used the compost to top up the potted tree soil, and will probably use the rest to add to the other garden beds.
